2009 Hunting Summary

Back

We started our season a little later this year. Ran our first sheep hunt from August 3rd to the 13th. We hit a few bad weather days but had enough good ones that everyone got their rams. We had many good traveling days, we hunted a few camps that the pack trips were a little further than average. Willow camp, Waterfall Draw and Canyon Creek were hunted.

From August 13-27 we had a couple hunters that wanted to see a little country. They took a two day pack trip up to our Rouge Range and harvested two old, heavy rams. On our other end, we didn’t go too far but climbed a lot of mountains and harvested a beautiful ram with a Black Powder. A few too many days were spent in the tent on this hunt, and if you were not in the tent you were dripping wet. Half-way through the sun started shining and we ended the hunt successfully.

Beautiful weather, not a bad day. We had four hunters go helicopter hunting and two hunted our Salt Creek camp from horseback. We harvested some great rams, and a couple Fannin. Seen a lot of country and got to a few mountains we had never hunted before. Moose hunting opened up on the first of September, one hunter finished hunting sheep in time to harvest a large moose and connected with a wolf. This hunt was run August 27th through to the 10th of September.

We ran one Caribou hunt this year from September 10th to the 15th. The first few days, the caribou were sparse, but the last two days they started to show up and we harvested 7 of the 8 bulls. Our weather was too good. Have a look at our caribou pictures, half them September hunters were in their short sleeves. For those hunters that finished within the first couple of days, they hunted wolves. Many were spotted but only two harvested.

On September 15th our horses left camp and we finished up our season hunting with helicopter. We had two hunters harvest their moose, sheep and one of the two connected with a nice caribou and a wolf. By the 20th of September we had gotten a little snow and the temperatures had dropped quite a bit. On September 21st our last moose hunter flew back into camp and everyone was out on the 23rd.

Had a lot of fun this past season, met a lot of very nice people and enjoyed their company. Throughout the many card games and after dinner gatherings I think it’s safe to say that everyone felt the same way. I want to thank everyone that had a part in making our 2009 season a good one.

Sincerely,

dave
