2006 Hunting Summary

Back

This year we started our season in early July. Our first sheep hunt was July 14th through July 24th. Other than the odd short shower the weather was calm through to the end of our second sheep hunt that ran July 24th through August 3rd. Through the two hunts we hunted our Hole in the Wall camp, Goat Camp, Hook Creek and the top end of Canyon Creek. Eleven out of eleven rams were harvested and one wolf.

Our third sheep hunt ran from August 3rd through August 13th. We had a couple of evenings of hard rain but were able to hunt everyday. We harvested five rams and one caribou between our Upper Redstone Camp and the head waters of the Muddy Water.

Our last day of hunt #4, August 13th through the 27th, was the only bad weather day and unfortunately we all had to get a little wet because we had to return to base camp. Five rams, four caribou and another wolf were harvested between Pecora and the Grey Draw.

Our fifth hunt ran from August 27th through September 10th. We had to wait to start this hunt; as bad weather delayed our plane for two days. The weather didn't settle until the later part of the hunt. But, with a bunch of determined hunters we harvested six out of six rams between Salt Creek, Sand Fly and the Tigonankweine country. Everyone took a caribou.

We ran two caribou/moose combination hunts from September 10th through September 20th. We had a few days of snow but it helped to bring the caribou down from the mountains and the moose to start rut. Nine caribou were harvested, five moose and one wolf. One of our moose hunters finished early and had time to harvest a great ram, as well.
