Dall Sheep Hunting

Welcome to Redstone Trophy Hunts – We offer world class hunting for Dall Sheep, Mountain Caribou, and Alaska/Yukon Moose. Wolf and Wolverine are also taken as available.

Redstone Trophy Hunts is located in the heart of the Mackenzie Mountains, NWT, Canada. The hunting area (S/OT/O5) lies 250 miles south of the Arctic Circle, and consists of 6000 square miles of magnificent, untouched wilderness. Elevations vary from 3,800 ft. to 7,500 ft.

This area supports a large population of Dall Sheep and Caribou. Hunter success has averaged 95% on both species over the last 16 years. Rams taken have averaged 10.5 years of age. A number of Boone and Crocket Caribou have also been harvested in recent years, including a pending new world record (463 BC points) in 2003.

Destination point is Norman Wells, NWT. Upon your arrival in Norman Wells, you are flown to our base camps by float plane. Both base camps (Hay Hook Lake and Dal Lake) are equipped with modern cookhouses, propane heated guest houses, and hot showers. Both camps offer excellent fishing for Lake Trout and Arctic Grayling.

From the base camps, you will travel by saddle horse/pack horse, river boat, or helicopter to different ranges and drainages within the area. This enables hunters to access much of the area and harvest the best animals available. It also enables us to accommodate people of mixed ages and physical abilities.

Fly camps consist of a private tent for the clients, guide tent, and a canvas style cook tent with stove for meals and after dinner gatherings. For personalized service each client is assigned an experienced guide.

We provide all camps, equipment, food, guides, stock, tack, and accommodations while you are hunting. You will need to bring your personal effects, sleeping bag, binoculars, ammunition, boots, and clothing. You are also responsible for license fees, trophy fees, air charter to and from base camp, and Canadian GST.

Please call or write with any questions. We would be happy to forward an information packet for the upcoming season. Thank you for your time and consideration.

2006 Hunting Summary

This year we started our season in early July. Our first sheep hunt was July 14th through July 24th. Other than the odd short shower the weather was calm through to the end of our second sheep hunt which ran July 24th through August 3rd.

Through the two hunts we hunted our Hole in the Wall camp, Goat Camp, Hook Creek and the top end of Canyon Creek. Eleven out of eleven rams were harvested and one wolf.

Our third sheep hunt ran from August 3rd through August 13th. We had a couple of evenings of hard rain but were able to hunt everyday. We harvested five rams and one caribou between our Upper Redstone Camp and the head waters of the Muddy Water.

Our last day of hunt #4, August 13th through the 27th, was the only bad weather day and unfortunately we all had to get a little wet because we had to return to base camp. Five rams, four caribou and another wolf were harvested between Pecora and the Grey Draw.

Our fifth hunt ran from August 27th through September 10th. We had to wait to start this hunt; as bad weather delayed our plane for two days.

The weather didn't settle until the later part of the hunt. But, with a bunch of determined hunters we harvested six out of six rams between Salt Creek, Sand Fly and the Tigonankweine country. Everyone took a caribou.

We ran two caribou/moose combination hunts from September 10th through September 20th. We had a few days of snow but it helped to bring the caribou down from the mountains and the moose to start rut. Nine caribou were harvested, five moose and one wolf. One of our moose hunters finished early and had time to harvest a great ram, as well.

A special thanks to the Redstone crew. We had a great season due to your hard work, dedication and experience. Look forward to seeing you all again next season.

Sincerely,

Dave Dutchik
