The fourth hunt for the season was August 27 through September 10. Hunters for the week were Keith Ainsley of OH, Eric Brown of AZ, and Dave McDonald & Bill Hirt of CO. We had some mixed weather throughout the week, with 4 days of snow and poor visibility.
All of the hunters flew into Hook Lake. Keith and Eric hunted out of the Delta Dawn camp, taking a 13.5 year old ram, a 10.5 year old ram, and 2 caribou. Eric’s caribou was the largest taken during this week, scoring 391 BC points.
Dave and Bill trailed out to the Canyon Creek camp. Bill harvested a 10.5 year old ram. Dave connected on an 11.5 year old ram in Slippery Creek. Two wolves were also shot at during this hunt.
The fifth hunt for the season (September 10-15) was a caribou hunt with a moose option. Guests for the week were Johnny Dilorenzo & Tony Carter of NY, Rick Young of OR, and Paul & Eugene Kamps, Jordan Engelsma, & Mike Andrews of MI. The Hook Lake Base Camp was used for this hunt.
We had cloudy weather for most of the week, with several days of fog and poor visibility. Daytime temperatures were in the 40’s, with nights dipping into the 20’s. Paul, Eugene & Jordan were archery hunting for most of the week.
Three caribou were taken during this hunt, all with the rifle. Several unsuccessful stalks were made, and one caribou was shot at and missed. One of the hunters also had a sheep tag and missed a ram. |
